Safescape Blog

Mines are the ideal place for innovation. Whether it be underground or in the treatment plant every mine is different. These differences breed innovation as we apply new ideas to solve our unique problems. Because this is part of our every day lives, at Safescape we believe that miners don't get enough credit for their innovative ways. Our Great Mines Think Alike blog page has been created to give a forum for spreading the innovative systems that we see at different mines in our travels. If you are interested in having news of your innovation included in our blog, please contact us.

A Ladder in a Day

Publised on September 23, 2011 14:02 by Safescape

On the 22nd of September Safescape installed a 21m Laddertube escapeway at Gwalia Deeps in Leonora.  This ladderway was special for a couple of reasons, at 1320m depth it is the deepest ladderway we've installed to date but more importantly it is the first time we have started and finished an installation in one shift.  Scott and myself arrived into camp on the evening of the 21st and after a quick induction and JSA in the morning we arrived underground at 9.30am, setup our winch and lifting arrangement and got started.  We left the site at 5pm loaded up and ready to head out.

Scotty and I worked hard to get the job done in a shift but the credit has to go to St Barbara, Barminco and especially to Dale Scott the mine technician for having the job setup and ready to start straight away.  The rise was a 1.1m boxhole, the top and bottom working areas were clear and had a layer of roadbase to work on.  Thanks to Dale and St Barbara for inviting us to site and helping prepare the area to make for a very neat job.  Also thanks to the Barminco project crew for helping us out with their IT in a timely manner despite having a long list of jobs to do elsewhere in the mine.
