Silver Lake Resources recently engaged the services of Safescape to install a Laddertube escapeway ladder into the Daisy East mine at our Mount Monger gold operations. We were originally attracted to the Laddertube as it is a fully enclosed ladder system which affords additional protection to personnel, requires little maintenance and is not subject to corrosion, which is an ongoing problem in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia due to the hypersaline ground water. An additional benefit was that the Laddertube system is fully compliant to the relevant Australian Standards AS1657.
The team from Safescape were extremely professional and capable. It was obvious from the time of their arrival on site that safety was of paramount importance and they had all necessary risk assessments and procedures in place to demonstrate the works could be completed safely and efficiently. A site specific job safety analysis was completed and the Safescape team went about installing the ladders efficiently and methodically without incident.
The quality of the installation was of an extremely high standard and the Laddertube was commissioned for use within three days of the Safescape team’s arrival on site. Safescape required only minimal additional resources from Silver Lake with all the necessary equipment, which is minimal, being supplied. The only assistance required was transportation of the Laddertube modules to the underground workplace and given the light weight of the modules this was easily done with two people and a light vehicle.
As the Registered Manager of the mine I was extremely pleased with the knowledge and capability of Safescape and will definitely continue to use the Laddertube at Mount Monger. I would certainly recommend considering the suitability of the Laddertube system to meet the needs of secondary egress ladderways at your underground operations.

Laddertube is so much better than our steel ladders, I wish we could replace them all

I was very happy with the whole installation process and product of the ladder way. I was particularly interested due to the high salt levels we had present within our mine. The switch from a steel caged ladder way to the Safescape ladder way was an easy decision to make and I have recommended the product to other parties.

I assisted Safescape with their first W.A. install at Miitel and was surprised at how fast and easy they (the laddertube) were to install. I then donned a BG4 along with the medics and tested the laddertubes out first hand. I must admit they are super easy to ascend/descend with breathing apparatus on and the smooth walls make climbing a breeze. I can only imagine how much better and easier the smooth walls would make hauling a medic and stretcher up - no mesh to get snagged on.

I am very happy to recommend the safescape Ladder tube. There are many advantages in using this product. It does not rust or corrode. It is quick and easy to install underground. It is easily reusable in other rises.
It is very easy to create entrances and exits. We found it much better option at Mincor's nickel mines at kambalda where the salt water required steel ladder ways to be replaced every 5- 19 years. Much easier to wash any built up salt off. much better option if these is stress built up in the rise and rocks are falling off
